Hello everyone! I suppose this thread will serve as my introduction and although I'm not sure if this belongs within the time travel category, it has been rumored to be the result of changes to our timeline. What do you all think about the Mandela Effect? There are times when I think there might be something to it. Like for instance, while others may remember Jiffy peanut butter, I actually remember a change from the branding of Jiffy to Jif. My memory is likely failing me here which is kind of the point of this effect, but I remember the company that made the brand got into legal trouble because of the existing brand Skippy. I remember thinking that Jiffy/Jif was the premium product and Skippy being a cheap imitation. I also remember being confused upon seeing the existing product Jiffy corn bread mix. Turns out that there was never any legal cases.
Though I don't believe many accounts of the Mandela Effect are real since most of the time it really can just come down to faulty memory. Still, though, there are somethings that I remember clearly that it leaves an eerie feeling for them upon realization/recall.
What do you all think?

Hello, Welcome to the forum. I remember as a kid, Woody, in the original toy story, it said there's a snake in my boot, but know says there's a snake in my boots. I looked up the script for this online some years ago, and to my surprise, it indeed said boot. I recall as a kid there were Woody dolls that said it the original way. I can even recall Pikachu Tale being black at the end, but now it's not now.

Hello Every1 and Leaf,
As a trained psychologist I believe the Mandela Effect may stem from quirks in our memory processes. Our brains are not perfect recorders of information; they reconstruct memories based on prior knowledge and expectations.
This can lead to false memories or shared misconceptions, particularly when influenced by cultural narratives.
Itβs fascinating how our brains can shape collective memory in such intriguing ways!
Also welcome Leaf to the Briar and great first post.
Regards

February I have a feeling there might be a few out that the Mandela Effect could claim. I'm still not sure why memories of news reports for celebrity deaths might come from. I know the effect's name directly came from the 'death of Nelson Mandela,' but for whatever reason, I had a similar one regarding Betty White. I swear I remember seeing news reports of her death years prior to finding out that she was still alive. I have no idea where this memory might have been constructed without any frame of reference for its foundation. I assume this could have been a celebrity death hoax which was commonplace at the time, but I don't ever recall such hoaxes making the local news. Just to double check, Betty White passed away in 2021 CE. Though it would be interesting if the hypothesis of Quantum Suicide and Immortality became a factor.

It's fascinating how our memories can construct such vivid narratives that can sometimes misalign with reality. You're correct; Betty White passed away in December 2021, but it's easy to see how celebrity death hoaxes or even casual conversations can lead to the Mandela Effect. The way information spreads, especially in the age of social media. Can blur lines between fact and fiction. The idea of Quantum Suicide and Immortality adds another layer of speculation; it's intriguing to think about how parallel realities might influence our memories. It certainly fuels the mystery surrounding these experiences! Regards February
