Newtons first law of motion. An object shall remain at rest or in a uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change it state by an action of an external force. If I was to roll a ball in a straight line the ball would remain in a straight line and move at a constant velocity, that's applying there's no other forces acting on the ball such as air resistance or friction if air resistance or friction were acting on the ball the ball would eventually come to a stop because all of its kinetic energy which was in the ball has been transferred into heat by friction. If we was to live in a frictionless universe the ball would keep rolling indefinitely
